Protection from Respiratory Virus, Plus a Big Announcement!

Posted by

If you've heard the news recently, you know that Georgia is one of the states where a nasty respiratory virus has sickened children. And of course, we also have our typical "back to school" increase in the flu beginning to happen. Read on to learn how to protect the ones you love. And don't miss our big announcement at the end!

Viruses have common characteristics:

These tips will help to protect you from any virus, including the flu. And even if you don't have kids, your risk is increased during the "back to school" season. These sweet little ones are not aware of good hygiene and spread illness through the community like wildfire when they first get back together after summer break! Here are my favorite weapons in the war against viruses:

1. Trusty lavender oil! Get a 3oz spray bottle and put in 30-40 drops of lavender oil, then fill the rest of the way with water. Shake and spray the following: Hands- Use instead of anti-bacterial lotion or wipes (which are toxic and have been proven not to work). Surfaces- Spray grocery cart handles, public restroom areas (and your hands after you exit), phones and desk areas in your office, etc. If you have kids, spread the contents of their backpacks out when they get home, then spray and let dry. This spray is tried and true!

2. Vitamin D: Best case scenario is that you know your Vit D test number and take enough to keep it between 60-80. If you don't know your number, give children 7 and under 400 IU per day and children over 7 a dose of 1,000 IU per day. Adults should take 2,000 IU per day. And next time you see your doctor for a checkup, get Vit D tested to be sure you're in the proper range.

3. Vitamin C: Linus Pauling did extensive research on this miracle vitamin and it's one of my favorites! Young children can have 250 mg twice a day and older kids 500 mg twice a day. Adults take 1,000 mg twice a day. Sound like a lot? Pauling took 10,000 mg every day and lived to be 93, active and vibrant! Read more about his career and nutritional research here.

4. Homeopathic cold & flu prep: Order our effective immune booster! Dose once in the morning and once at night for prevention, and if you see any signs of illness start, dose up to hourly to kick those bugs right out! Call Elizabeth at our office.

5. If you start to get sick: Generally speaking, there is not a good medical treatment for a virus. That being said, your MD can give valuable help with controlling symptoms. No matter how much you might want to avoid drugs, if your child is wheezing, use common sense and let the MDs do what they do well! We can always "clean a person up" after using steroids, antibiotics, etc. Better yet.... Follow the above tips and prevent the problem in the first place.

This should go without saying, but I'll say it anyway: I am not a medical doctor and nothing in this newsletter should be taken as medical advice. Discuss all medical issues with your own MD.

And now....... our big announcement!!

We are doubling our staff at Natural Health Solutions! I have been searching for well over two years to find the right practitioner to join me in the practice. Requirements were tough: Competence and experience with naturopathic methods, a big heart and genuine caring & love for patients, and commitment to making Natural Health Solutions their long-term home. (Honestly, it's a lot like dating and getting married! You might try to make "Mr/Ms-almost-right" work, but eventually you learn it's best to wait it out for the truly right one. Not that any of us have ever done that......)

Dr JeNeen Ridgeway is that perfect practitioner match I've been waiting for! She is a chiropractor who is also highly trained in nutrition, allergy elimination, and even homeopathy. She is passionate about helping people, as those who know her will attest. And even from the first meeting, we both just knew it was right.

Dr JeNeen will start seeing patients on October 7. Help me to welcome her to the practice by saying hello on our Facebook page.

Here is the new staff at Natural Health Solutions!

From L to R: Dr JeNeen Ridgeway, DC; Debra MacIntyre, ND; Elizabeth Thomas, Pharmacy and Deb's assistant for technical and administrative duties, Nzingha Hall, PR & Marketing.

Many of you have known Tawnee Waldron, who worked reception and delivered allergy treatments. We wish her a very fond aloha, as she moves on to further her education! We will maintain a close relationship, as we continue to work with Tawnee and her daughter to keep them strong and healthy. Thank you and best wishes for the future, Tawnee!

We all look forward to serving you and helping you to reach your optimal health, so you can live a big life without attention on your body!

Success of the Week:

I don't know if you are a miracle worker but for this afternoon you are! Mom never mentioned her headache again and ate more soup than she has in a long time, two crackers AND a piece of pound cake!!!!
She said it tasted good!!!! Praise The Lord and YOU! She has taken 10 drops and I am so thankful!
