Success with Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV)

When my son, Jeremy, was an infant he contracted Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) which quickly led to bronchiolitis. He began to wheeze and fight for breath. In the emergency room at the hospital they gave me an air chamber and mask to treat him at home. I would spray the medicine (usually Albuterol) into the chamber, place the mask over his face and he would breathe it in. The doctor also put him on Prelone (a steroid) which he would take for 10 days. The wheezing would gradually get better, but within four to six weeks, he would be back at the doctor's office wheezing and given Prelone again. This continued for about six months. Eventually, we moved up to a nebulizer machine which administered the medicine in a mist. This regimen had to be followed every four hours which meant I had to wake him up a couple of times a night. I expressed concern to the pediatrician about the frequent use of steroids. She said they were necessary because it was especially dangerous when babies wheeze because their air passages are already so small and the situation could very quickly become worse. She also said that due to the bronchiolitis at such an early age, Jeremy was predisposed to upper respiratory problems and that I needed to get used to it - he most likely would be an asthmatic child.

Well, I decided I would NOT get used to it. I did not want my child on steroids and I was tired of strapping a mask on him for treatment ever four hours! A friend referred me to Deb and after her very first homeopathic treatment, he gradually stopped wheezing and he did no have another wheezing episode for four months! This was unheard of - he had never gone longer than six weeks without wheezing. When he did start wheezing again, Deb said if at all possible to use the homeopathic treatment and forgo the steroids and Albuterol. But she also made it clear to follow my "mother's instinct" and if I felt he needed the Prelone or Albuterol, to use it. It was extremely difficult not to intervene with the wheezing that first time but I wanted to give his immune system a chance to work on its own. It would have been much easier to give him the Prelone, but I watched him very carefully and waited. In a few days, it went away.

It was an even longer interval before he wheezed again and it was resolved within a day or two. And then he never wheezed again! I am convinced that if I had continued with the conventional treatment of steroids and Albuterol, Jeremy today would have a chronic condition and a compromised immune system. I am glad that I did not get used to it and I am so thankful I found Debra who helped this body heal itself.
