Success with CholesterolI came to Dr. MacIntyre and Naturopathic Health Care because I was scared and a bit angry. I had just had a telephone call from my doctor telling me that my cholesterol was too high and he was concerned about my blood pressure. His reaction was to immediately put me on medication! I told him that I wanted to explore other options, to at least try to get my cholesterol under control by diet and that my blood pressure is only high at his office! The doctor was skeptical, but I was adamant. I asked him for a referral to a nutritionist. He gave me a telephone number, but I was happy neither with the attitude of the person who answered my call nor with the little information she was able to give me. After thinking about my needs and my interest in alternative medicine, I went to my favorite health food store, Atlantis, and asked if staff there knew of a good nutritionist. Deb MacIntyre was the first name I was given. My experience here has been excellent! Having had a friend who visited a nutritionist in another state, I was aware of the need to start with a food diary, so I brought a week's list with me at my first visit. Of course, I was impressed when Deb MacIntyre took a detailed history and talked to me about what I hoped to achieve before we really discussed her program. She read my food diary and said, "If this is really how you usually eat, this is not the problem." She suggested allergy testing and we began NAET. Without really changing my diet-except for omitting peanut butter toast as an every day breakfast-as of my late October visit with the other doctor to check blood work, we have brought my cholesterol down 22 points, and I have lost 14 pounds since June. I attribute this directly to NAET which seems to have begun to bring my body back into balance and to enable it to function as nature intended. We have more work to do-I'm not where I need to be yet-but we've made a great start!! J. |
