Need a Vacation to Recover from Your Summer Vacation?

Summer represents relaxation, but many actually feel more hectic during these months. A hectic pace causes stress, and high stress levels are associated with every disease or non-optimal health condition known to man.

I recently heard of a story from an old-timer. He spoke of growing up with a large grandfather clock with a long pendulum. The slow tick-tock seemed to say, "there's-plenty-of-time." (Remember how you felt listening to these?) This man observed that modern clocks had much shorter pendulums with a faster tick-tick-tick that speaks the message "hurry-hurry-you're-running- out-of-time." How true!

Here are some tips to create a less stressful summertime:

  • Enjoy a little quiet time every day. Turn off TV, radio, etc., and just sit for a few minutes.

  • Equip your alarm clock with a CD of upbeat, happy music with a positive message. What you hear first thing in the morning tends to stay in your mind. If it's a sad message, this sets the stage for your day.

  • After dinner, take a little stroll and purposefully look at things in your environment one at a time. This tends to draw your thoughts from the stress of the day to the current moment.

  • Don't use computer or cell phones within an hour of bed. This creates more restful sleep.

  • Essential oils like lavender and ylang-ylang can be used to create natural stress relief.

You might enjoy these summertime tips so much that you incorporate them into your lifestyle! Doing so will make you healthier and happier.
