Here are two great detoxification programs that are easy and safe for any adult to do. First, my famous flush for your liver and gall bladder, the “Beet Flush”: Grate 1 cup of raw (organic, if possible) beets. Add 2 tablespoons of either flax seed oil or extra virgin olive oil, along with the juice of 1/2 a fresh lemon. Keep refrigerated. Stir this mixture and eat 1 teaspoon every 1 to 2 waking hours for 2 to 3 days. Make a new supply of the beet mixture when needed. After the first 2 to 3 days, eat 1 tablespoon of the mixture 3 times a day for one week. I’ve used this gentle cleanse for over 15 years very successfully. You can repeat once every 3 to 4 months to help keep your hard-working liver in good shape! Second, is my world famous “3 Week Cleanse” (I actually met an Australian woman while standing in line to swim with the dolphins on a trip to the Bahamas… this woman had received a copy of my 3 Week Cleanse from her Australian neighbor, my former patient. Wow! I’d gone international!) Here’s how it goes: For 3 weeks, totally avoid all gluten and dairy products. (Gluten is found in foods made from wheat, oats, spelt and sometimes rye. Stick with rice and you’ll be fine. You can get bread, pasta and crackers made from rice and some corn. There are LOTS of gluten free products on the market now. Dairy is anything made from milk.) Use proper food combining, too. This means that your rice foods can be eaten with veggies, and your proteins (meats, soy, beans, eggs, and nuts/seeds) can also be eaten with veggies, but your rice and proteins are not eaten together. Fruits, on this cleanse, can be eaten only by themselves on an empty stomach. Empty stomach means to eat the fruit 1/2 hour before another food or 2 hours after eating another food. Stay very strictly on this cleanse for the entire 3 weeks. It’s like pushing the “reboot” button for your metabolism! OK, there’s a mantra that goes with this cleanse. (A mantra is a phrase that is repeated over and over, like a chant.) The mantra is, “It’s only 3 weeks, it’s only 3 weeks, it’s only 3 weeks….” I hope you enjoy the results of these cleanses! Remember that the change of the seasons is a great time to do some detoxification, and regular detoxification is key to your continued health.
